Cardiff City were elected in to the second division in the year 1920 and made an instant impression in the division, gaining promotion as they finished off the campaign in second position. They enjoyed a great season during the 1923 – 1924 campaign as they finished it off in second position. The club narrowly missed out on FA Cup triumph in the year 1925 as they suffered defeat against Sheffield United in the FA Cup final. Their finest moment came in the year 1927 as they won the FA cup, defeating Arsenal in the final. The Bluebirds suffered relegation at the end of the 1928 – 1929 season and would later on play in the third division south. They were a top flight club again between 1953 and 1957. Before the years 1960, they had several different managers, including, Cyril Spiers, Billy McCandless, Trevor Morris and Bill Jones. Len Davies made an impression at the club between 1920 and 1931 as he scored a staggering 128 league goals for the club. Stan Richards was part of the Cardiff City side that helped the club gain promotion at the end of the 1946 – 1947 season in to the second division as he scored a staggering 31 league goals.
